The race: Ewen Costiou (Arkea-B&B Hotels) did not start.

Here's a machine-translation of the race organizer's report:

And finally, the 44th edition of the Clásica San Sebastián arrived. After the great atmosphere at yesterday's team presentation, race day arrived. The reigning winner of the Clásica San Sebastián was among the favorites, along with other riders such as Juan Ayuso (UAD, 12th), Isaac Del Toro (UAD, 15th), Primoz Roglic (RBH, 54th), and Oscar Onley (TPP, 141st), among others.

The day began with numerous attacks in the opening kilometers just before the first rated climb of the day. There, 12 riders managed to open a gap on the peloton. The leading group was made up of Jordan Labrosse (DAT, 26), Gil Gelders (SOQ, 33), Mats Wenzel (EKP, 67), Julen Arriola-Bengoa (CJR, 72), Darren Van Bekkum (XAT, 126), Alexy Faure-Prost (IWA, 133), Enzo Leijnse (TPP, 145), Gotzon Martín (EUS, 161), Anthony Delaplace (ARK, 172), Paul Double (JAY, 181), Ben Swift (IGD, 217), and Josh Burnett (BBH, 233).

The peloton gets rolling in the city of San Sebastián.

At kilometer 95, the gap between the lead and the peloton was 1 minute, 55 seconds. The main group was always led by the UAE Team Emirates XRG and Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe.

After the first pass through San Sebastián, the peloton increased its pace and reduced the gap to 1 minute and 20 seconds. The three main events of the day were approaching: Jaizkibel, Erlaitz, and Murgil. The favorites for victory moved their teams forward with the aim of neutralizing the breakaway and making a move in Jaizkibel and Erlaitz.

The pace on the climb was very high, both in the breakaway and within the peloton. The break was reduced to three riders, including Jordan Labrosse (DAT, 26) and Mats Wenzel (EKP, 67). Behind them, Lucas Plapp (JAY, 186) jumped out of the peloton with the aim of joining the breakaway. Before reaching Irun, the three regrouped. The peloton trailed at 1' 27".

The lead group with 72 km to go: Jordan Labrosse (DAT), Gil Gelders (SOQ), Mats Wenzel (EKP), Julen Arriola-Bengoa (CJR), Darren Van Bekkum (XAT), Alexy Faure-Prost (IWA), Enzo Leijnse (TPP), Gotzon Martín (EUS), Anthony Delaplace (ARK), Paul Double (JAY), Ben Swift (IGD), Josh Burnett (BBH). The peloton is more than a minute back.

The breakaways had a 27-second lead before the start of Erlaitz. After the first ramps, Lucas Plapp (JAY, 186) took the lead alone. From the bottom, Primoz Roglic (RBH, 54) picked up the pace, destroying the peloton and outpacing all his competitors. Only Jan Christen (UAD, 13) and Léo Bisiaux (DAT, 21) were able to keep up. Little by little, Roglic lost strength and was neutralized by another group of riders. Among them was his teammate Maxim Van Gils (RBH, 56) along with Jan Christen (UAD, 13) and Giulio Ciccone (LTK, 42). But all was not yet decided; UAE Team Emirates' Mexican Isaac del Toro reached the group with relative ease. In the final meters of the climb, Roglic managed to re-enter the lead. Race. Two Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe riders, two UAE Team Emirates XRG riders, and a Lidl-Trek rider led the Clásica San Sebastián with 42 kilometers remaining.

The peloton midway into the race.

Del Toro increased the pace just before the summit of the toughest section, with only Giulio Ciccone (LTK, 42) able to follow him. A time trial began from here to the finish.

The race was broken up into many small groups. The two leading riders had a 40-second lead over the chasing group, which was trying to organize itself to catch them. This group included riders such as Jan Christen (UAD, 13), Léo Bisiaux (DAT, 21), Primoz Roglic (RBH, 54), Maxim Van Gils (RBH, 56), Neilson Powless (EFE, 91), Tiesj Benoot (TVL, 101), Cian Uijtdebroeks (TVL, 107), and Lucas Plapp (JAY, 186).

There were only 17 kilometers left to go, and the gap increased to 53 seconds. The two leading riders looked like they would be fighting for victory on the final climb. Before the climb began, the gap was reduced to 36 seconds. From the chasing group, Jan Christen (UAD, 13) launched an attack that no one else could follow. He reached the lead duo and increased the pace again, causing significant damage to his teammate, who was unable to meet his attack. Ciccone followed the Swiss rider's wheel and changed his pace, leaving the two UAE Team Emirates XRG riders behind. The Italian was giving his all and looked stronger than anyone.

There wasn't much more strength behind him. Neilson Powless (EFE, 91) caught Del Toro before reaching the summit.

The Italian Lidl-Trek rider arrived at the San Sebastián boulevard with only a 10-second lead, but it was enough to take the victory, Txapela of the 2025 edition. Second was Jan Christen (UAD, 13) and third Maxim Van Gils (RBH, 56).
